Janice's Story

"I've spent more than four decades helping people learn, grow, heal, and navigate life's transitions. Today, I bring together everything I've learned—as an educator, leader, caregiver, coach, and lifelong student of wellness—to help others live healthier, more purposeful lives."

My story is about transformation.
  • I have helped students discover confidence.
  • I have helped women reclaim their lives after abuse.
  • I have led teachers to become better educators.
  • I have cared for my mother through the end of her life.
  • Now I AM helping adults create healthier, more intentional lives.

My journey has been guided by one central purpose: helping people discover their potential and live healthier, more meaningful lives.

I began my career as a middle school teacher in Las Vegas, where I taught mathematics, entrepreneurship, and *The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens*. Those years taught me that education is about far more than academics—it is about helping people build confidence, resilience, and the belief that they can shape their own future.

After my divorce in 2002, I returned home to my ranch in Texas to raise my two daughters. While they were growing up, I also began a profound journey of personal growth and professional transformation. In 2003, I founded Personal Expressions Retreat, a nonprofit that provided restorative retreats for women who were survivors of physical abuse. That experience deepened my understanding of healing, resilience, and the remarkable capacity people have to rebuild their lives when given a safe and supportive environment.

In 2011, after my youngest daughter graduated with honors, I accepted an opportunity with the Abu Dhabi Education Council as a school administrator and Head of Faculty. Working with educators from many cultures broadened my perspective on leadership, communication, and the universal importance of creating environments where people can thrive.

When I returned to Texas in 2015, I devoted two years to caring for my mother until her passing in 2017. That experience reinforced my appreciation for compassion, healthy aging, and the importance of caring for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

Those experiences naturally led me to create Aat the Ranch, a place dedicated to helping others reconnect with themselves and with what matters most.  Today, my work brings together decades of experience as an educator, certified health and wellness coach, Kundalini Yoga teacher, and lifelong student of health, neuroscience, nutrition, movement, mindfulness, and spirituality.

Whether I'm teaching, coaching, leading a retreat, or simply having a conversation, my goal is the same: to help people cultivate greater health, resilience, purpose, and joy so they can live fully at every stage of life.

Over the years, I've come to believe that creativity is more than making something beautiful—it is a pathway to healing, self-discovery, and personal transformation. In 2019, I began developing therapeutic art experiences that combine painting, movement, mindfulness, and guided reflection. These workshops are offered at the ranch, online, at festivals, and within organizations seeking innovative approaches to employee wellness and stress reduction.

My approach is based on a simple belief: when we intentionally engage the creative process, we often discover insights that words alone cannot access. Painting becomes less about artistic ability and more about curiosity, presence, and self-awareness.

Creativity has been an important part of my own life as well. The practice of painting helps me quiet external distractions, cultivate resilience, strengthen my capacity for joy, and remain grounded during life's uncertainties. It encourages me to examine limiting beliefs, interrupt unhelpful patterns, move beyond perfectionism, and reconnect with what matters most.

I bring this same philosophy into every workshop I lead. Participants aren't expected to create a masterpiece. Instead, they're invited to explore, reflect, and experience the restorative power of creativity in a welcoming, judgment-free environment.

Whether I'm guiding someone through a wellness retreat, a Kundalini Yoga class, a creative painting experience, or a coaching session, my goal is always the same: to help people reconnect with themselves, unlock their innate creativity, and discover practical tools for living healthier, more intentional, and more joyful lives.
